I founded PFSI Youth after noticing something I couldn’t ignore. As a high school student, I began seeing more and more people in my community: families, kids, and elderly individuals, all struggling just to afford basic meals. It wasn’t something distant anymore; it was a crisis happening all around me.
One moment that stayed with me was realizing how many people rely on simple, ready-to-eat food yet lack access to it. A single question constantly troubled my mind: what if something as basic as a sandwich could make someone’s day a little easier? That idea stuck with me.
At first, it was just a small effort:
making a few sandwiches and finding ways to share them. But I quickly realized that the need was much bigger than anything I could do alone. That’s where PFSI Youth began to take shape.
I started reaching out to friends, volunteers, and community members who cared about making a difference. What began as a small idea has now grown into a weekly effort, where we prepare and donate fresh sandwiches and fruit to local organizations supporting those in need.
PFSI Youth was founded on a simple belief: that small acts of kindness multiplied by a community create real change.
Food insecurity affects thousands of families across San Mateo County. Rising housing costs, high living expenses, and other financial pressures leave many households struggling to meet basic needs, including access to nutritious food.
While local food banks and community organizations provide essential support, programs like the Sandwich Program help fill gaps by delivering ready-to-eat meals that are simple, reliable, and nutritious. Even small weekly contributions can make a meaningful impact over time.
The Sandwich Program follows a consistent weekly process to ensure efficiency and safety:
1. Food Preparation
We prepare sandwiches and fresh fruit using purchased ingredients. Each meal typically includes:
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich
Fresh fruit (such as bananas)
Packaged safely for distribution
2. Packing and Organization
Meals are packed in food-safe bags and organized for delivery.
3. Community Distribution
Once prepared, the boxes are dropped off at Samaritan House for distribution.
Community support is essential to sustain and grow the Sandwich Program. There are several ways to contribute:
Donate – Any Financial contributions will help us to cover ingredients and supplies costs.
Volunteer – Students and community members can assist in preparing and organizing meals .
Partner – Local businesses and organizations can support our initiative through food donations and sponsorships.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our impact by gathering staple foods like fresh vegetables, eggs, rice, and beans, and assembling nutritious food boxes to donate to Samaritan House, supporting families with more complete and sustainable meal options.
